
Arley E. ‘Buddy” Cutright, Jr. of North Garden, passed away on September 4, 2006.
Buddy was born in Charlottesville on December 3, 1930 to Arley E. and Frances Rhoads Cutright. Buddy was survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsie Holliday Cutright and their three daughters: Sandra Stanley (Carl) of Ashland, Virginia, Bonnie “Beep” Cutright (Tori Jenkins) of Afton, Virginia and Carol Gentry (Moses) of Gate City, Virginia, and his five grandchildren: Jason Kessler, Sean Kessler(Gentry), Erin, Sara and Andrew Stanley.
Following several neighborhood fires, Buddy was instrumental in the establishment of the North Garden Volunteer Fire Department where he was a charter member. The family lake and surrounding field became the annual site of the North Garden Fire Department fairs as well as church gospel sings and picnics over the years.
Buddy was a well-known and respected building contractor. Learning the trade from his father, he continued the business and took great pride in doing quality work. His projects included houses, commercial buildings and at least five churches.
He developed an interest in woodworking and enjoyed making antique reproductions and Shaker-style furniture for Trinity United Methodist Church’s annual Lord’s Acre Sale. In his youthful days, Buddy enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts, serving in the capacity of Assistant Scout Master. Buddy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of North Garden, where he served in numerous capacities, and was also a past member of the Board of Directors for Westview on the James, a church camp in Goochland, VA.
